Guest WiFi Marketing Kit (Grandstream GWN Captive Portal)

Setup the Guest WiFi lead-capture system using Grandstream GWN access point with captive portal. Collect visitor contact info and drive engagement.

Setup steps

  1. 1Unbox the Grandstream GWN-based Guest WiFi Marketing Kit and follow the standard GWN access point setup (see the GWN76xx guide). Once the access point is in GWN.Cloud and connected, you're ready to configure the lead-capture portal.
  2. 2Log into your GWN.Cloud account and select your access point. Under 'WiFi Settings,' create a new SSID specifically for guests (example: 'YourBusiness-Guest').
  3. 3In the same SSID settings, enable 'Captive Portal' and select 'Enable Splash Page Login.' This will force users to view a splash page before accessing the internet.
  4. 4Go to 'Captive Portal' > 'Splash Page Configuration.' Upload your company logo and customize the splash page with your business name, welcome message, and a brief description of your services.
  5. 5In the 'Login Components' section, select the information you want to collect: typically Name, Email, and Phone Number at minimum. These fields will appear on the splash page as required fields.
  6. 6Configure the authentication method: Choose 'Free' (optional) to allow users to skip login, 'Simple Password' if you want a single password for all users, or 'RADIUS' for enterprise authentication. For lead capture, 'Free' is recommended to encourage sign-ups.
  7. 7Add 'Terms of Use' text accepting the WiFi terms and collecting consent for marketing emails. This appears as a checkbox on the splash page.
  8. 8Save and apply the configuration. The access point will update within 1-2 minutes. Test by connecting to the 'YourBusiness-Guest' WiFi from a phone or laptop—you should see your splash page appear.
  9. 9Once users submit their information on the splash page, leads automatically sync to your Business IT Solutions account portal and you'll receive a weekly digest email listing new guest sign-ups for follow-up outreach.

Troubleshooting

Captive portal doesn't appear when connecting to guest WiFi network+

Verify that 'Captive Portal' is enabled in GWN.Cloud for the SSID. Restart the access point by power-cycling it. On your test device, forget the WiFi network and reconnect. Some devices cache portal information—try a different device to test. Check that the splash page is configured and saved in GWN.Cloud.

Splash page appears but doesn't submit or shows errors+

Ensure all required fields on the splash page are filled in. Verify the access point has internet access by checking the Ethernet connection LED. Test submission with different browsers (Chrome, Safari, etc.) as some browsers may have compatibility issues. Try clearing the browser cache and cookies and retesting.

Users cannot access the internet after submitting the splash page+

Verify the guest SSID has internet access configured in GWN.Cloud WiFi settings. Check that 'Client Isolation' is not enabled—this would block internet access to clients. Ensure your router or network upstream of the access point has internet connectivity. Restart the access point and try connecting again.

Guest leads are not appearing in the Business IT Solutions account portal+

Verify your Business IT Solutions account is properly linked to your GWN.Cloud account. Check your GWN.Cloud integration settings to ensure lead sync is enabled. Confirm users are actually submitting the splash page form by testing yourself. Check your email for the weekly digest to see if leads are being captured at all.

Splash page displays but name/email/phone fields don't collect data or show as blank+

In GWN.Cloud Splash Page Configuration, verify that 'Name,' 'Email,' and 'Phone' fields are enabled in the Login Components. Ensure these fields are marked as 'Required' if you want to mandate collection. Save the configuration and reboot the access point to apply changes.

Pro tips

  • Make your splash page visually appealing and on-brand. Customize colors and upload your logo to build credibility and increase sign-up rates.
  • Keep required fields to a minimum (Name, Email, Phone)—fewer fields result in higher completion rates. Avoid asking for address or credit card info as this reduces sign-ups.
  • Set network bandwidth limits for guest traffic to prevent guests from consuming all available bandwidth. Limit each guest connection to 2-5 Mbps in the SSID settings.
  • Use the weekly digest emails to identify engaged prospects and follow up with targeted offers or service information—these are warm leads already in your business premises.
